HISTORY OF CALVARY

Calvary Tabernacle was birthed in the hearts of Stanton and Cindy Miller. In 1991, starting first with Bible studies, this small group quickly outgrew the living room of their home. The newly developing congregation relocated to a borrowed school and a few months later to the Cookstown Methodist Church (CMC). Calvary rented the building of the CMC for about ten years. With limited use of a meeting place, prayer meetings were held in homes and baptisms occurred in swimming pools, a jacuzzi and even a borrowed horse trough. Fellowship was enjoyed by going house to house. As the church grew spiritually and numerically, the desire to purchase property and build a home for this group of believers also grew. Prayer was made, funds were raised, and a diligent search for the right location led us to Georgetown -Wrightstown Rd. Property was purchased (our current location) and under the direction of Pastor Stan Miller a building was erected. This was a labor of love that all the members, from the youngest to the oldest, freely involved themselves in.

In March 2002, the doors were open, and the church family joyfully marched into the sanctuary, celebrating the goodness of God, for our first service in our very own building. It was a time of launching new ministries, experiencing great revival and disciple-making.

In 2016, our founding pastor made the decision to step away from the day- to- day role of pastor. Pastor Stanton Miller transitioned to the role of Bishop and Rev. Nathan Miller was appointed to the role of Associate Pastor. Founding pastor, Dr. Cindy Miller, served as Lead Pastor. A transition plan was set in place for the future of the pastoral team.

In 2022, Dr. Miller and Pastor Nathan completed the transition with Dr. Miller becoming Senior Pastor and Pastor Nathan taking the role of Lead Pastor. In Spring 2023, Pastor Nathan appointed Rev. Brian Hairston to serve as his Assistant Pastor.

We are grateful for the church family who make pastoring a joy and a privilege. We are blessed to pastor a diverse congregation of people that come from local New Jersey residents as well as those from our nearby military community.
